Emily is a large green Stirling Single who first appeared in the seventh season episode "Emily's New Coaches". The other engines ignored her for pulling Annie and Clarabel without permission, and Thomas was furious too. The matter was resolved after she saved both Thomas and Oliver from a nasty accident on the cross-points, and she was rewarded with two new coaches Martha and Jennifer.
Emily is one of the few female engines on the North Western Railway, and has been made part of the "Steam Team". Emily has a North Western number, 81.
Emily acts as a sisterly figure to the others, but can get into trouble or be fussy.
Emily is based on GNR Stirling Single, of which there is only one left in the world, located at the National Railway Museum in York.
