Edward Glenn was chosen to replace John Bellis, a volunteer firefighter and taxi driver on the Isle of Man, as the voice actor for Thomas. Test audiences complained that Bellis made Thomas sound "too old" and therefore all of Bellis' lines had to be scrapped and redubbed by Edward Glenn so Thomas would sound younger. Glenn also put on a false British accent to stay true to the series British roots, so it may have made his voice sound higher pitched than it actually was.
